Muscat Airport is the main International airport of Oman and since it is located about 32 kilometers from Muscat, it is also known as Muscat Airport, though formerly it was known as Seeb International Airport.
Opened in 1973 as Seeb Intl Airport, it took the place of an already existing comparatively smaller airfield which was located in the Muscat village of Bayt al Falaj. Now sprawled over an area of about 21 square kilometers, MCT has a single two-storey terminal which acts as a hub for various airlines lines, mainly Oman Air and provides intercontinental flights to various locations in Europe and Asia.
As already stated, Muscat International Airport is Oman’s main airport; hence as expected it offers all the necessary facilities and services that a passenger expects. Operated by Oman Airports Management Company, Muscat International Airport is fully equipped to meet the needs of the international passengers.
Its terminal is T-shaped and is equipped with enough things to meet the passenger traffic that it attracts now; it has now about 58 check-in counters, 23 departure gates, 3 baggage-reclaim belts plus necessary shops and service counters. The airport building, though dates back to 1970s, has been expanded several times over the years to meet the international standards.
